Paul Kangas, LA
Mr. Kangas serves as principal landscape architect and oversees site design and land planning on a wide range of projects. He has significant experience in corporate campus planning, commercial site design, park and open space planning, urban renewal, and sustainable design. His skills as a landscape architect allow him to design projects that blend with the land and enhance the overall project while minimizing encroachment on the natural environment. Mr. Kangas is a Landscape Architect with with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design and a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture both from North Dakota State University. Paul is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Notable Project Experience
Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St. Paul, MN
Loucks Associates provided services including landscape architecture for an extensive renovation of the historic State Fair Grandstand. Th e project includes a new performance area, seating and concession areas and public plazas adjacent to the new elevator and stair towers. Loucks Associates worked closely with the project team on a very aggressive schedule to complete this significant face lift to a historic landmark on time and within budget.
City of Zimmerman Park Master Planning - Zimmerman, MN
The City of Zimmerman requested assistance with the master planning of four municipal park sites. Many different user groups were competing for practice and play space, necessitating an analysis and review of the current system, as well as planning of four sites to maximize park amenities and clearly define the role each park would play in the future development of both youth and adult recreation. A focus group, consisting of representatives from each sports organization, the school district, the Park Commission, and interested citizens, participated in the process and helped guide the design and refinement of the park plans.
Lakewood Healthcare System - Staples, MN
We worked directly with the architect to complete design of a new medical campus to serve central Minnesota. The site was designed to take advantage of the natural amenities on the site and minimize the impact of the impervious surface. A complex system of rain gardens and natural infiltration basins was used to treat storm water on site and served as a major component of the overall prairie-themed landscape design.
Farmington Mixed-Use Development - Farmington, MN
Mr. Kangas provided master planning and design for a 240-acre parcel on the Vermilion River in Farmington. Th e project was evenly divided between residential and commercial uses. Adjacent to two different roadways that would experience significant growth in the near future, the plan was prepared to accommodate growth over 20 years.
Cargill Corporate Headquarters - Minnetonka, MN
Loucks Associates served as project manager on numerous projects at the Cargill Corporate Headquarters near Lake Minnetonka. Work included the design of an automobile and employee courtyard, renovation of a historic garden wall, and design and implementation of a campus signage package.
