Health care has become a major facet of the American economy. Loucks Associates has developed a focus area and the recognized expertise in designing medical facility sites. These facilities have ranged from numerous smaller regional hospitals in several Midwest states, to expansions of many of the major hospitals in the Twin Cities, to participation as engineers, surveyors and landscape architects in the entire campus of the newest full service hospital and medical office complex in suburban Minneapolis.

Our medical design team recognizes the critical aspects of functional drop-offs; pedestrian access; emergency vehicle access and safety; and the orderly ease of accommodating large numbers of people who may be unfamiliar with the campus. A critical design factor in today’s hospitals is provision for mobile technology such as mobile PET and MRI trucks. Along with their access requirements comes the need for patient shower rooms and changing rooms in the hospital and private, comfortable routes for the patients to get from the building to the mobile facilities.

Campus and site planning are important to every medical facility, whether it’s a rural hospital or a central-city site constricted by surrounding development. Loucks’ medical team concentrates on efficient use of space and LEED site development with a focus on future expansion.
