Loucks Associates

Public

The successful completion of projects in the public arena requires a project consultant that is focused on the aesthetic, economic and environmental aspects of the development. Well-designed spaces, that enable the public to enjoy the natural and man-made amenities of the site, provide public places that are frequented by its citizens and in turn provide the underpinnings for a community. The landscape architects at Loucks Associates have proven through numerous public spaces, such as city parks and commons areas, hospital plazas and a State Fair central gathering plaza, that they are attuned to these values.

No public projects progress without diligent and frequent attention to the budget, the sources of funding and the schedule and timing of those funds. The professionals at Loucks have coordinated projects involving complex, multiple funding sources such as: the Great River Road involving the City of Minneapolis public works, the Parks and Recreation Board, the Department of Natural Resources, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the U. S. Corps of Engineers and others. Loucks has demonstrated its expertise in the public funding process in the areas of central city street construction projects, harbor and seawall development, rail facilities at a river terminal, brownfield redevelopment coordination, demolition and reuse of inner-city sites and municipal street and sewer construction projects. A significant piece of any of these projects is that of preparing the budgets, bid documents, helping with the awarding of contracts, the processing of pay requests and oversight of contract completion.

In contemporary society it has become widely recognized that environmental issues demand thorough attention – especially in public buildings and projects and in the development of sites that utilize public funds. Through our history in urban planning, landscape architecture and environmental services Loucks has developed a group of LEED accredited professionals focusing on these concerns. We have professionals in several disciplines that are focused on sustainable development and LEED criteria along with others versed in the production of EIS and EAW documents as well as Alternative Urban Areawide Reviews (AUARs). Protection of the environment and the push for sustainable projects are recognized as central aspects of public projects today.
