Education Sciences Building U of M

Loucks Associates performed civil engineering services for the renovation of the old Mineral Resources Research Center at the University of Minnesota into the new Education Sciences Building. The scope of the project consisted of renovating the contaminated, unoccupied building and site that were first constructed in 1924 to a useable space that would house the departments of the College of Education and Human Development. To complete this work we teamed with Collaborative Design Group who designed the building renovation, and Liesch Associates who designed how the site and building contamination would be abated. The civil engineering included upgrading the front entrance and the parking along East River Road to current handicap standards, design for a pedestrian/plaza area on the Mississippi River side of the building, designing a sidewalk/bike path for safer travel for students crossing the bridge, updating sanitary and watermain services, designing the storm sewer system, including rain gardens for water quality treatment and to reduce the flow of water running over the river bank. downloadable PDF
